Product Description
Based on the latest version of ASTM A106 / ASME SA106 standard and combined with actual production and testing data, this article provides a comprehensive analysis of the chemical composition, mechanical properties, size specifications and typical application scenarios of A106 Gr B seamless steel pipes, helping you make an accurate selection decision.
A106 Gr.B SMLS Pipe is a premium hot-rolled seamless carbon steel pipe complying with ASTM A106 standards, specially engineered for high-temperature and high-pressure industrial fluid conveying systems.
Compared with ordinary welded steel pipes and common carbon steel pipes, it features integrated seamless forming, uniform metallographic structure, fewer internal impurities and stable mechanical properties, effectively avoiding weld cracking and leakage failures under extreme working conditions.

Our advantages
From our experience, the long-term service performance depends on three factors:
- Traceability: Each batch of materials is accompanied by EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certification.
- Full-size coverage: 1/8″ – 48″, customizable length and end processing (groove, thread)
- Third-party inspection: Supervised by authoritative institutions such as SGS, BV, TUV, and DNV
- Fast delivery: We have a large stock of commonly used specifications (Sch 40 / Sch 80) in stock.

application

- Petroleum refining: High-temperature process pipelines for atmospheric and vacuum distillation units, catalytic cracking units, and hydrogenation units
- Thermal power generation: Main steam pipes and feedwater pipes of the boiler system
- Chemical and Fertilizer: High-temperature synthesis gas, superheated steam transportation pipelines
- Natural gas processing plant: Gathering and transportation pipelines and heating furnace tubes
- Pressure piping system: Industrial piping in accordance with ASME B31.1 / B31.3 standards

RFQ
QWhat is the maximum operating temperature for ASTM A106 Grade B?
A: ASTM A106 Grade B is generally suitable for continuous service at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F) . For short-term or intermittent exposure, slightly higher temperatures may be tolerated, but creep strength becomes a concern above 400°C. For sustained service above 430°C, alloy steel grades such as ASTM A335 P11 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo) or P22 (2.25Cr-1Mo) are recommended.
What types of mill certificates (MTC) can be provided for ASTM A106 Grade B?
A: We typically provide:
EN 10204 Type 3.1 – Certified by the manufacturer's in-house inspection
EN 10204 Type 3.2 – Certified by an independent third-party inspection (e.g., SGS, BV, TUV)
Each certificate includes heat number, chemical analysis, tensile results, hydrostatic test pressure, and dimensional inspection.
Can ASTM A106 Grade B pipe be welded?
A: Yes. ASTM A106 Grade B has good weldability. Common welding processes include SMAW (stick), GTAW (TIG), and GMAW (MIG). Typically, low-hydrogen electrodes such as E7018 are recommended. Preheating is generally not required for thinner walls (below 1 inch/25 mm) unless ambient temperature is low or carbon equivalent (CE) is on the higher side. For heavy walls, preheating to 100–150°C is advisable.
Can ASTM A106 Grade B pipe be used for sour service (H₂S)?
A: Not directly. ASTM A106 Grade B does not have automatic H₂S (sour service) resistance. If your environment contains wet H₂S, you must add the NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 requirement, which imposes stricter limits on hardness (≤ 22 HRC / ≤ 237 HBW) and sulfur/phosphorus content. Standard A106 Grade B does not automatically meet these limits. For sour service, please specify "A106 Grade B with NACE MR0175" so we can apply controlled processing and testing.
