Detailed explanations of its characteristics, composition and performance

316 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel material with excellent corrosion resistance. It is widely used in industries with high requirements such as marine engineering, chemical equipment, food processing, and pharmaceutical machinery. Its most notable feature is that it contains approximately 2%–3% of molybdenum, which makes it significantly superior to common stainless steel materials like 304 in terms of resistance to chloride corrosion. It is particularly suitable for environments in contact with seawater, salt fog, acidic or alkaline media.

From the composition perspective, 316 stainless steel typically contains 16%–18% chromium, 10%–14% nickel, and molybdenum. This chemical combination endows it with excellent resistance to pitting corrosion and corrosion resistance. Additionally, 316 stainless steel exhibits good strength, toughness, weldability, and high-temperature resistance. It can maintain a stable structure and performance even under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions.

In practical applications, 316 stainless steel is commonly used to manufacture pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, ship components, and food-grade processing equipment. Due to its clean surface, ease of cleaning, long service life, and low maintenance cost, it has become the preferred material for many enterprises.
