When processing K500 in the aged hardened state, there are two challenges: high hardness and the tendency for processing hardening. The aged hardness ranges from 250 to 315 HBW, resulting in a large cutting force and accelerated tool wear. It is recommended to use carbide or coated tools to maintain a sharp edge to reduce the depth of the processing hardening layer. The feed rate and cutting depth should be moderate to avoid repeated friction on the surface layer, which could lead to further hardening. Adequate coolant supply is necessary, and the cutting zone temperature should be controlled to prevent thermal deformation of the workpiece and affect the dimensional accuracy. For high-precision parts, rough machining can be done in the solution state, and fine machining should be scheduled after the aging treatment to balance efficiency and final dimensional stability. When tapping and drilling, a low-speed high-torque strategy is recommended, and timely chip removal should be carried out to prevent the screw thread surface from tearing. Monel K500 has good toughness, and chip control needs to be achieved through chip-breaking grooves and optimization of feed parameters.
