The mechanical properties of K500 are highly dependent on the heat treatment regime of solid solution and aging. The typical process is as follows: The solid solution treatment is carried out at approximately 980–1010°C to allow aluminum and titanium to fully dissolve into the nickel-copper matrix, followed by rapid cooling to maintain the supersaturated solid solution. The aging treatment temperature range is usually between 480–620°C, with the common range being 560–590°C. After holding for several hours, it is air-cooled to allow the uniform precipitation of Ni₃(Al, Ti) precipitates. Key points for temperature control: If the solid solution temperature is too low, aluminum and titanium will not be fully dissolved, resulting in insufficient strength after aging; if the aging temperature is too high or the time is too long, over-aging will occur, causing coarse precipitates and a decrease in strength. Studies have shown that different aging temperatures (560°C, 630°C, 700°C) have a significant impact on grain size and precipitation behavior. Additionally, heat treatment in the open air may have an adverse effect on corrosion resistance. It is recommended to use controlled atmosphere or vacuum treatment.
