The key to achieving high strength in Monel K500 lies in the precipitation hardening mechanism of aluminum and titanium elements. Monel 400, as a solid solution strengthened nickel-copper alloy, can only achieve limited strength enhancement through cold processing. K500 has added approximately 2.3–3.15% of aluminum and 0.35–0.85% of titanium on the same nickel-copper matrix. After solution treatment and aging treatment, dispersed Ni₃(Al, Ti) γ' phase precipitates are precipitated in the matrix, these coherent particles effectively hinder dislocation movement, thereby significantly increasing the yield strength. After standard aging treatment, the yield strength of K500 can reach approximately three times that of Monel 400, and the tensile strength is about twice that of it. At the same time, it basically retains the excellent seawater and chemical medium corrosion resistance of 400. This characteristic makes K500 the preferred material for pump shafts, valve stems, and marine engineering fasteners and other high-load corrosion-resistant components.
