The excellent corrosion resistance of Monel K500 in flowing seawater is attributed to the inherent corrosion resistance of the nickel-copper matrix and the synergistic effect of the flowing conditions. The nickel-copper alloy can quickly form a thin and dense protective film in clean seawater, which persists under flowing conditions and effectively prevents the intrusion of corrosive media. High-speed seawater can also inhibit the attachment of fouling organisms and the accumulation of sediment, avoiding the risk of crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion caused by stagnation. The age-related precipitated phases of K500 do not damage the corrosion resistance of the matrix, so its corrosion rate is extremely low in the environment of high-speed seawater flushing, and it is particularly suitable for components such as centrifugal pump shafts that are subjected to flowing seawater flushing. Note: In still or low-flow seawater, K500 may still experience pitting corrosion, so the design should ensure that the medium is in a flowing state.
