The commonly used execution standards for Monel K500 rods include ASTM B865 and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156. Each has its own focus on applicable scenarios. ASTM B865 is a general supply technical specification for nickel-copper alloy rods and forgings, covering the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and size tolerance requirements of UNS N05500, and is suitable for general industrial procurement and acceptance. NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, on the other hand, is for material selection in sulfuric acid (acidic) environments in oil and gas production, stipulating the acceptability of K500 under specific service conditions. Studies have shown that K500 has the ability to resist environmental-induced cracking when used according to the recommended guidelines, but the surface sulfide film on it converts rapidly in acidic environments, which may limit its long-term service performance. Therefore, for general corrosion-resistant structural components, procurement according to ASTM B865 is sufficient; for oil well downhole or H₂S-containing working conditions, it is necessary to additionally confirm compliance with the limitations of NACE MR0175.
