Centrifugal pump shafts are subjected to both torque loads and corrosive erosion in seawater environments. K500 precisely meets these dual requirements. The aged-state yield strength of K500 is approximately 724 MPa, much higher than Monel 400, allowing for the use of a finer shaft diameter to reduce the size of seals and bearings. In high-speed flowing seawater, K500 has excellent corrosion resistance and good anti-corrosion fatigue performance, capable of resisting the combined effects of alternating stress from pump rotation and medium erosion. Typical applications include pump shafts for fire pumps and seawater lift pumps. By leveraging its high strength and resistance to corrosion in seawater, the service life of the pump shaft can be extended. When selecting materials, it is important to note: K500 has a tendency for pitting in still seawater, so pump shaft design should ensure continuous medium flow during operation, and freshwater flushing measures should be taken during shutdown.
